Well I have made some progress with my guitar. I have been learning chords and getting my finger tips toughened up. Shortly after my last post I broke a string, went to town(about 30 miles) got a new set, put them on, tuned up, put the guitar down and heard a string go pop and break. Later that week my wife and I visited a neighbor who is a great guitar player and he gave me another set of strings. Since then I have had better luck tuning properly. I will at some point by an electronic tuner!
I am convinced that I can learn to play some tunes and enjoy this beautiful instrument. The two local guitar players, I have mentioned, host house concerts for traveling musicians that are on there way through our area between gigs. Last friday Chris Ayers, winner of the 2007 John Lennon international songwriting competition, played and sang, what a treat! Our host and neighbor also played guitar and keyboard and he just might be the best guitar player I have seen in person! He played with Isaac Hayes and The Edgar Winter Group. It was a wonderful evening.

After forty plus years I am picking up a guitar and I am going to learn how to play! Two days ago I broke a string while tuning and so yesterday I bought a new set and I am learning how to restring the instrument. I had a guitar in my early twenties but I convinced myself I could not learn how to play it. I am blessed with a wonderful and very understanding wife who has helped me believe that I can do it now. I have also had the good fortune to meet a local player and luthier who is guiding me in the right direction. I look forward to posting my progress and other items of interest.
